January 2002 - August 2007Institute of Child Health, Chennai, is Asia's largest pediatric multi-specialty hospital and the cardio-thoracic surgery department typically carries out more than five hundred cardiac procedures every year on little children, infants and newborns from under-privileged families. The hospital is among a very small group of institutions where expensive heart surgery is provided totally free of cost to deserving families, the cost being borne by the State Department of Health and Family Welfare.
